According to witness testimony, Jenkins fired a gun into the air during the altercation to stop the fighting. Milian was punched in the face during the ensuing brawl.
When Joliet police arrived to break up the fight and used pepper spray on Milian, he became even more enraged.
After the cops left, Milian and Motley planned to exact revenge on Jenkins, who had left the party without his gun.
Jenkins later returned to the house to retrieve his misplaced gun and reconcile with Milian and Motley.
However, while Jenkins was inside the house, Motley informed a group of friends outside that he intended to shoot Jenkins in the back of the head.
Milian, one of those friends, gave Motley the gun used in the murder. Jenkins left the house, briefly speaking with Milian and Motley before turning his back to go.
Motley shot the unarmed Jenkins five times from behind at a distance of four feet as he walked away.
The first four bullets hit Jenkins in the right shoulder, left wrist, right elbow, and buttocks. The fatal shot struck him in the back, tearing through his spine and piercing his right lung and heart lining before exiting through his chest.
