Born on 12 June 1994, in Renton, Washington State USA, under the air sign of Gemini, Jeff Seid is a 25-year-old American fitness model and bodybuilder. He is an active participant in bodybuilding competitions organized by the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB), mainly in the Men’s Physique category.
One of the most famous fitness models of the last 15 years, Jeff embarked on his weightlifting journey at the age of 12. However, being a professional bodybuilder wasn’t his goal, as he only wanted to impress girls and become stronger for football and wrestling.
When a devastating injury derailed his dreams of playing in the National Football League (NFL), he came across an IFBB competition taking place near him. Needless to say, the first-timer dominated and took home the crown. Now, with millions of followers on social media and millions of dollars in his bank account, Jeff is still the relentless high school kid who refused to let an injury take away his dreams of making it big.
Early Life – An Athlete Since He Was Born
Jeff was born into an American family in rural Washington. There is not much information available about his family, other than the fact that he has two sisters – Kristina and Melissa. Ever since he started competing professionally, he has been bombarded with inquiries pertaining to his upbringing and parents, but a true professional, Seid has avoided answering any questions relating to his private life. His infatuation with sports began at the tender age of five and it was the start of a truly amazing journey.
By the time he was 11, there wasn’t a sport he didn’t excel in. While many talented athletes become arrogant, Jeff understood the value of hard work, and decided that he should start lifting to perform even better. When he asked his parents for a set of weights for his 12th birthday, he didn’t expect much, so was surprised when he was gifted a barbell, a bench press, two dumbells and the book “Weight Lifting for Dummies”. In several interviews, Seid shamelessly admitted that his priority was attracting girls with his physique, however, he was soon hooked on working out, and as a result became an even better athlete.
High School: From Tragedy to Triumph
In high school, Jeff was a star athlete. He was an All-American wrestler and even set several records in track and field, however, the sport he loved the most was football. During his junior year, several prominent colleges approached him with scholarship offers. Jeff’s family wasn’t particularly well-off, so he intended to have his college education paid by an athletic scholarship. By the time he was a senior, he was almost completely sure that he wanted to obtain a college degree and play in the NFL one day.
His first football game of the year ended up being a disaster, as he tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) when he planted his foot the wrong way. Not only was his dream of being a professional athlete jeopardized, but he could possibly lose the opportunity to start college that year. A few months later, he attempted a comeback, only to tear the same ACL the second time. Jeff was now at a crossroads, not knowing what the future held for him. However, one instance of late-night research on the internet changed everything.
His Bodybuilding Career
Just days before having surgery on his torn ligament, Jeff couldn’t sleep, so he did the obvious thing and started messing around online. While skimming through the bodybuilding.com website, he found out about a new category in IFBB competitions – Men’s Physique. This novelty meant that contestants mustn’t have too much muscle mass. After conducting more research on the topic, Seid realized that he looked as good as most of the competitors in the category, if not better. A month later, he went to his first show and won it. It was an amazing experience, and made Jeff realize that not all is lost.
Next year was even more thrilling for this upcoming star, as he won a national IFBB competition, which is an honor that rewards the winner with an IFBB pro card – he was the youngest athlete to ever receive it. The same year, Jeff won an IFBB Pro competition, which automatically qualified him for the Mr. Olympia Men’s Physique Showdown, which is the most important bodybuilding competition in the world. He took part in the showdown on three occasions, in 2013, 2014 and 2016.
Becoming an Entrepreneur
Encouraged by his success on an international stage, Jeff began exploring the industry even more than before. Unlike most bodybuilders, who are content with their athletic prowess and do nothing else, he wanted to build a brand. Thus, he worked hard to obtain an ISSA license to become a certified fitness trainer. Afterwards, he started offering private training sessions, tutoring and anything else related to fitness and bodybuilding. He even has online programs that are tailor-made for each customer.
In 2017 he started his own clothing brand – SeidWear. Powered by his star status in the bodybuilding world, he was able to promote the company aggressively, and nowadays SeidWear is amongst the most popular independent fitwear brands.
For most people, being a bodybuilder, a trainer and a CEO would be enough, but Jeff isn’t most people. He wanted to share his knowledge through writing, as well. Thus he wrote “Guide to Aesthetics”, a 150-page book which chronicles every single detail required to have a physique like Jeff’s. What about future plans? ‘Everything is going according to plan, but still my hunger for more thrives. I’m just getting started.’, he said of his upcoming endeavors.
