Christian Ryan Contreras was born under the sign of Pisces on 12 May 1986, in the Central American republic of Belize. He is a 33-year-old American actor, screenwriter and playwright, best known for starring in the role of Ramos in the Showtime sci-fi action adventure series “Halo: Nightfall”. He is also recognized as the husband of noted British actress Jodie Whittaker.

Early Life

Christian Contreras spent his early years in Belize; he initially wanted to become a professional soccer player, but later as a teenager decided to focus on acting. So upon matriculation, Christian enrolled in the University of North Carolina, located in Wilmington, from which he graduated with a BA degree in English. Thereafter, he continued his education at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, from which he obtained a BA degree with honors in Acting.

The 2000s: Career Beginnings

Christian made his debut in a small role in the 2004 drama romance “Stateside”, after which he starred as US Marshall William Juarez in the short horror “Wrong Turn 3: Left For Dead” (2009). It was followed by his portrayal of Guy Rossi in the 2009 TV biopic film “Gracie!” about the life of English actress and singer Dame Gracie Fields. In 2010, he appeared in two short film titles – “Tomato Soup” and “Thrush”.

In 2011, Christian appeared in the role of Antonius in the fantasy horror “The Great Ghost Rescue”, after which he was cast as Andy Faraday in the BBC One drama series “The Syndicate” (2012). During the same year, Christian also starred as Paul J. Clark in the British four-part political thriller mini-series “Secret State”, and then landed a small role in the drama thriller “Zero Dark Thirty”, directed by Kathryn Bigelow and based on the true story of the decade-long hunt for Osama bin Laden.

He starred in the 2013 thriller “The Fifth Estate”, next to Benedict Cumberbatch and Carice van Houten and then appeared in two TV mini-series, “The Assets” and “The Honourable Woman”, in 2014. It was followed by his supporting role in the David Ayer war drama “Fury”, and portrayal of Ramos in the Showtime sci-fi action adventure series “Halo: Nightfall”, both in 2014.

Recent Years

In 2015, Christian was quite busy, since he played Eddie McVarish in the BBC mystery film “The Last Hours Of Laura K”, featured as Javier in the romantic comedy action “Superbob”, and guest-starred as Captain Worthington in two episodes of the NBC thriller series “American Odyssey”. During the following year, Christian portrayed Hank in the comedy-drama “Adult Life Skills” and played Lee Palmer in Brad Furman’s biopic about Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar, entitled “The Infiltrator”.

He was also cast as a psychiatrist in Oliver Stone’s 2016 drama thriller “Snowden”, which is based on the life of Edward Snowden,  the  former CIA employee and whistleblower, portrayed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Most recently, Christian landed the role of Moreno in the action film “The Hurricane Heist”, directed by Rob Cohen, and played Ben Torres in the ITV crime drama series “Strangers”, both in 2018. He is currently filming the upcoming mystery film “The Rapture”.

Screenplay for “City of Lies”

Additionally, Christian wrote the screenplay for the 2018 crime drama “City Of Lies”, starring Forest Whitaker and Johnny Depp. It is based on the book “LAbyrinth” by renowned journalist Randall Sullivan, about the police investigation of murders of Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac.

Personal Life: Wife Jodie Whittaker and Daughter

Christian Contreras and Jodie Whittaker met each other while they were attending the drama school. They collaborated in a play, and soon started dating, eventually tying the knot in a wedding ceremony held on 31 December of 2008 in Arizona. She gave birth to their first child, a daughter, in April of 2015. The family currently resides in London, England.
