Hannah Gross was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on 25 September 1990 – she holds Canadian nationality, and her birth sign is Libra. She is popular for her acting career, mostly for playing Debbie Mitford in the “Mindhunter” TV series.
Childhood and Education
Hannah spent her early life in Toronto with her parents Paul Gross and Martha Burns, both of whom are actors – she has a younger brother named Jack. Paul and Martha often took Hannah to movie sets with them, which is how she fell in love with the film industry and chose it as her career – her first role was in the play “Macbeth” in her high school.
She studied at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, from which she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Theatre in 2012.
Hannah’s Acting Career
Hannah made her debut appearance (uncredited) in the “Men with Brooms” romantic comedy movie in 2002, and then played a girl at a motel in the “Wilby Wonderful” drama movie in 2004, uncredited as well. She had a significant role in the “Drei Mädchen” German movie shot in 2005, before taking a break to focus on her studies.
In 2010, she made her debut on stage when she played Katie in the “Doc” play at the Young Centre for the Performing Arts – she went on to appear in “Talk to Me Like the Rain and Let Me Listen” play and “A Streetcar Named Desire” both in 2012.
Hannah appeared in three movies in 2013 – “I Used to Be Darker”, “Lydia Hoffman Lydia Hoffman”, and “The Sixth Year”. She won the lead role of Lydia in the “Christmas, Again” drama romance movie shot in 2014, and in the same year played Cammy in “Uncertain Terms”, and Natalie in “Haze” movies.
The year 2015 saw her in five movies, including “Take What You Can Carry”, “Beach Week”, and “Little Cabbage”, all short. Hannah made six movie appearances in 2016 – she played Kirsten in “The Zeno Question” short film, and Norah in the “Unless” Canadian-Irish drama movie, among others.
She made her debut TV series appearance in the “Mindhunter” crime thriller in 2017 – she played Debbie Mitford in 10 episodes and the show made her popular in the film industry too, and earned her quite an amount of money.
In the same year, she played young Marjorie in the “Marjorie Prime” science fiction movie, and in 2018 appeared in two movies, entitled “The Mountain” and “Her Smell”. Hannah had a recurring role in “The Sinner” TV series in 2018, and appeared in seven episodes of the “Deadwax” TV series in 2018 as well.
She played Young Penny Fleck in the “Joker” psychological thriller film released in October 2019, and Laure in the “Clifton Hill” thriller film – she is currently shooting for two movies entitled “The Education of Fredrick Fitzell” and “Falling” both of which are scheduled to be released in 2020.
Hannah as Debbie Mitford in the “Mindhunter” TV Series
Hannah plays Debbie Mitford in the “Mindhunter” TV series who is the girlfriend of the main character Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff), a special agent in the FBI’s Behavioral Science Unit. Debbie is a graduate student of sociology at the University of Virginia in the show’s first season – she helps her boyfriend interview Edmund Kemper, a serial killer, to better understand how serial killers think.
The show counts two seasons and 19 episodes, and won the Best Drama Series at the Satellite Awards in 2018 – it is still not known whether or not the series is going to be renewed for another season.
Love Life and Husband
In an interview with “Interview” magazine in June 2007, Hannah stated how the best advice she has ever received was that ‘women should never seriously be involved in dating in their mid-20s.’ Hannah’s dream date would be Paul Newman, a deceased American actor, producer, philanthropist, and a film director, but she hasn’t so far found her ‘Paul Newman’ and is single.
Rumor has it that the popular actress has already married a mysterious man but there are no sources to confirm this and it is unlikely to be true.
Likes (Dislikes) and Interests
Hannah launched her modelling career in 2015, but rather thinks of it as a hobby – she has recently posed for The Italian Reve fashion and beauty website, and has been featured in “Nylon” magazine as well as in “The Last Magazine”. She is keeping up with fashion trends, and is a bit of a shopaholic often going to purchase new clothes for her wardrobe. She dislikes social media networks, and is not active on any.
Hannah enjoys going to both music and film festivals – she could have been seen attending the Sundance Film Festival in 2013, and the 75th Venice Film Festival which was held from 29 August to 8 September 2018 and at which her “The Mountain” movie’s premiere was held.
