Harry Julius Shearer was born on December 23, 1943, in Los Angeles, California, the U.S. to his parents Dora Warren and Mack Shearer. His father was a bookkeeper and was a Jewish immigrant from Austria and Poland. He started learning piano at the age of four. When Shearer was seven years old, he got his first role in the radio show The Jack Benny Program.
